Validating Design Data

To validate design data

Bentley OpenUtilities Designer can be configured to check for specific data conditions in your current design and to report any errors detected. This operation gives you an opportunity to view a list of data problems and their work location in the design. The presence of data errors will not interfere with your design work. However, depending on how your system has been configured, you may not be able to submit the design to an external work management system until you correct the errors.

Validity checks are performed by the Design Assistant. You can initiate a validity check by selecting the Validate Design command on the Actions toolbar or clicking the Validate Design button on the Design toolbar. Errors are listed in the Validation view of the Design Assistant's Output pane. The list displays the location of the error, its severity, and a brief description. Double-clicking an item highlights it in the Design Workspace.

The following options are available from the shortcut menu in the Validation view:
  • Allow Docking Makes the Output pane moveable so you can drag it to other positions around the screen. Moving the pane to its original position and clicking Allow Docking restores the pane's original appearance.
  • Hide Closes the Output pane. Selecting the Output command on the View menu opens the pane.
  • Float In Main Window Moves the Output pane to the Design Workspace window. Right-clicking the pane and then clearing Float in Main Window on the shortcut menu restores the Output pane to its original position.
  1. With the design open in the Design Assistant, select Validate Design from the View menu.

Or click the Validate Design button on the Design toolbar.

  2. In the Output pane, click the Validation tab.
